Message from Ms Hill

It has been a wonderful year and a very busy term!

I’d like to say thank you...

To our parents and carers – for being supportive of everything we do to try and make Lavender the best it can be.

To the PTFA members – without whom so many wonderful things would not happen; you are very much appreciated.

To our incredible staff team – who give so much of their own time (and even their own money) to help give our children that little bit more. You are truly caring.

To our children – for being polite, hard-working and positive! It is a pleasure to have you all at Lavender. Year 6 – you will always be welcome here!

I’d like to wish everyone a relaxing and safe summer and look forward to seeing you in September.

Ms Hill x

Goodbye Year 6!

MAT information evening

As part of Lavender's drive to share good practice, on Wednesday 5th July we held a cheese and wine information evening for any local schools considering forming a multi-academy trust, at which we described the highs and lows of our journey. This event was kindly sponsored by Badger, our IT support provider, who were also present to advise schools on maximising their IT resources.

Sports Day

The sunshine and the fun were much in evidence on Wednesday 5th July when all our children were able to participate in Sports Day. It was another great day with a wonderful turnout - thank you for coming along to support the event. Details of the winners will be published in the newsletter next week. A special thank you goes to Mr Halley, our PE Leader, who did a great job of organising it.

Summer Fair

The summer fair was truly amazing; it was wonderful to see so many of you enjoying the sunshine and helping to support the school by taking part in the fun. We'd like to say a huge thank you to everyone who made donations and helped out on the day and especially to our dedicated and hard-working PTFA.

We raised over £7000, all of which will go towards funding enrichment activities/items for all Lavender pupils.

The top 3 raffle winners were: £150 cash - Lilian Hammerton; Amazon Kindle Fire - Evan Hughes; and £25 John Lewis Voucher - C.Clarke. Congratulations to them and to all the other winners of some brilliant prizes donated by local businesses. The office still has quite a few unclaimed prizes, so please pop along whenever you get the chance.

Also thank you to Mrs Finch for organising a wonderful Lavender Got Talent showcase. We have some very talented pupils.

WE NEED YOUR HELP!

It is estimated that £50m available for children eligible for free school meals is unclaimed within the London region alone. We are therefore introducing a new system for checking eligibility which will involve parents entering a few details into a website that links directly to the DfE checking system and gives an immediate response.

As a thank you for this, London Grid for Learning will provide parents with Sophos AntiVirus software, free of charge, to protect the computers used by pupils at home.

For more information, see the Parent information page under the Community tab.

E-safety

Please can we remind you that there are legal age limits for different applications and websites to help protect children from online danger or risk. Some apps add new features that increase the risk for your children, such as the new Snapchat 'Snap Map'. This feature can make your location visible to others, including strangers!

It is very important that you know and monitor what your child is accessing on the internet. Please let us know if children are using social media inappropriately to upset others, even though it is happening outside school time. We continue to teach our e-safety curriculum but do please come and speak to us if you would like further support or have any questions about keeping your child safe online.

Thank you.

Information sessions about autism in Sept 2017

These sessions are offered to parents and carers resident in Enfield with a child over 6 with a diagnosis of autism. Details on the Parent support page under the SEND tab under the About us tab

Tax-free childcare

This is a new government scheme to help eligible parents with the cost of childcare through an online childcare account. For every £8 you put into this account, the government will add an additional £2. For more information, please look on our Parental information page under the Community tab.

Information on schools funding

Please find two leaflets below with information on 'Parents against cuts' and 'Fair funding'.

New e-safety leaflet - advice for parents and carers

On our Parental information page under the Community tab and on our Safeguarding page under the About us tab, you will find a useful leaflet about keeping your children safe online. This information supports the work that we do in school about e-safety. Should you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us.

How are we doing?

Dear Families,

Just a reminder that our validated data is available to view on the government website:

https://www.compare-school-performance.service.gov.uk/find-a-school-in-england

You will see that Lavender’s attainment at KS2 for English and Maths combined is 20% above the national figure! We were also above the national figure for phonics again, and have been since the test was introduced. Our Foundation Stage results and KS1 results were also very pleasing.

Our areas for development, this year, include ensuring that: our higher achieving boy readers make excellent progress and our disadvantaged pupils attain well in all subjects.

Do come and speak to us if you have any concerns about your child’s progress.

Formation of the Ivy Learning Trust

Following the consultation period which ended on 31st March 2017, the governors of both Brimsdown and Lavender, having considered all submissions, voted to proceed with the formation of the Ivy Learning Trust at meetings on 26.4.17 and 27.4.17.

For further information, please go to the Ivy Learning Trust tab under the Community menu.

Safeguarding Reminder - any images taken at our events are for personal use only and must not be uploaded to any form of social media. Thank you.

POLICIES  Some of our policies are being updated and we will keep you informed of changes. See them by clicking on the Policies tab on the 'About us' page.
