As you may have heard, the police are currently investigating incidents where children have been approached by strangers in a white van. In assemblies, we have reminded children of some of things they can do to keep themselves safe whilst not with an adult, but you may also wish to speak to them about being safe.

For example:

Come straight into school or go straight home if walking to and from school without an adult

Walk with friends whenever possible

Use main roads with good lighting and avoid short cuts, especially where these are less public than an alternative route

Not to speak to any strangers who might approach them and to report any such incidents immediately to either parents or the school. Any information will then be passed on to the police.
